We are delighted to invite you to the International Colloquium “Cucuteni – 140: Interdisciplinary Framework for Cucuteni-Trypillia Research,” commemorating the 140th anniversary of the discovery of the eponymous Cucuteni-“Cetăţuie” site.

This event will also honor prominent scholars who have significantly contributed to Cucuteni-Trypillia research and have passed away in the last decade:

The colloquium will be held at the Cucuteni Eneolithic Art Museum “Gheorghe Dumitroaia” in Piatra-Neamţ, Romania, from November 26th to 28th, 2024, in a hybrid format, allowing both in-person and online participation.

Volodymyr Kruts, a renowned expert in the field, described the Trypillia mega-sites and their surrounding smaller settlements as a 'laboratory' for studying prehistoric economy, demography, and beliefs. In spirit of the interdisciplinary framework of the 140th anniversary meeting, we aim to gather a comprehensive summary of the latest research on various aspects of life in the northeastern reach of “Old Europe”.

We welcome contributions addressing data analysis, methodologies, and the integration of evidence across scientific disciplines. Submissions focusing on key findings, site chronology, and related topics are highly encouraged.

Accommodation and meals in Piatra-Neamț will be covered by the Neamț National Museum Complex. Please submit your contributions (papers and posters) by October 31st.

A volume of program and abstracts (300-500 words in English, French, or German, with 5-10 keywords and 1-5 figures in greyscale – 300 dpi, and in color – 600 dpi) will be edited by the organizers prior to the colloquium. The proceedings will be published in 2025, with no space limit for texts and figures, which can be printed in color.
