25-29 серпня 2022 р. у м. Вільнюс (Литва) відбулася 23-тя Європейська зустріч Асоціації палеопатологів (PPA). Цьогоріч у ній взяли участь співробітники відділу біоархеології ІА НАНУ к. і. н. ст. н.с. Олександра Козак, м. н. с. Юлія Ушкова та випускниця Магістерської програми «Археологія та Давня історія Украіни» НаУКМА Вероніка Унгурян. Українські антропологи виступили з доповідями на теми: “Tuberculosis in the subadult population of medieval and early modern Kyiv” (Олександра Козак), “Trepanation practice during Early and Middle Bronze Age in the North Pontic region” (Юлія Ушкова, Олександра Козак), “A new procedure of stature reconstruction based on osteometric data” (Вероніка Унгурян). Участь українських вчених у цьому заході стала можливою завдяки підтримці членів та керівництва PPA (Megan Brickley, Julia Gresky та інших), й, в першу чергу, колег з Вільнюського університету — організаційного комітету конференції (Rimantas Jankauskas, Dario Piombino-Mascali, Žydrūnė Miliauskienė, Justina Kozakaitė, Rūta Brindzaitė).
Вже не вперше литовські вчені приходять на допомогу українським у цей важкий час. Українські антропологи висловлюють щиру вдячність нашим колегам та друзям за цю підтримку та можливість увійти у світовий палеопатологічний контекст. Це був чудовий досвід!
On August 25-29, 2022, the 23rd European Meeting of Paleopathology Association was held in Vilnius (Lithuania). This year members of the Bioarchaeology Department of the Institute of Archaeology (NASU) Oleksandra Kozak, Yuliia Ushkova and a graduate student of the Master Program "Archaeology and Ancient History of Ukraine" (National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”) Veronika Unhurian took part in the event. Ukrainian anthropologists presented their speeches on the following topics: "Tuberculosis in the subadult population of medieval and early modern Kyiv" (Olexandra Kozak), "Trepanation practice during Early and Middle Bronze Age in the North Pontic region" (Yuliia Ushkova, Oleksandra Kozak) and " A new procedure of stature reconstruction based on osteometric data" (Veronika Unhurian). The participation of Ukrainian scientists this year became possible thanks to the support of the PPA Executive Committee (Megan Brickley, Julia Gresky and others), and, first of all, our colleagues from Vilnius University, the Local Organizing Committee of the conference (Rimantas Jankauskas, Dario Piombino-Mascali, Žydrūnė Miliauskienė, Justina Kozakaitė, Rūta Brindzaitė).
It is not the first time that Lithuanian scientists give their helping hand to their Ukrainian colleagues in this difficult times. Ukrainian bioarchaeologists express sincere gratitude to our colleagues and friends for this support and the opportunity to be part of the global paleopathological context. It was a great experience!
